🌳🌳Example of Caption in English by Type

Understanding captions in English will not be easy to understand without studying the types of captions. The question "what is caption in English" is actually not difficult to answer if we have studied English captions for grade 12 which includes examples of caption text, caption text examples, and examples of English material captions. The point is caption text is explanatory writing on the picture. It has been explained above that there are 6 types of captions in English and their pictures. Now we will give examples of English captions of each based on its type.

A. Example of Caption Identification Bar As explained above that the type of caption identification bar is a type of English caption that only states who is in the picture, for example below.

B. Examples of Cutline
Captions This type of cutline caption is what we most often find in pictures and writings in newspapers and media, both offline and online. The captin cutline states who is in the picture and what they are doing, for example as shown below.

C. Example of a Caption Summary
While in the caption summary, the information we get in the complementary text is more detailed. There is information What, Who, Where, When. Usually the task of making an example of an English 5w 1h caption is in this type of caption or expanded caption.

D. Example of Expanded Caption
Next is the caption with the most complete information. This type of expanded caption is a development of the previous caption, especially the summary caption.

An example of the next expanded caption is the following travel photo which depicts the millennium bridge crossing the Theme river in London.

E. Caption Group Identification
Example The group identification caption looks the same as the caption identification bar example. It's just that the subject is a group of people, for example as below

F. Example of a caption quote While an example of a caption quote is quite easy to find on image media such as Instagram. Quotes have often been used to convey messages indirectly. If accompanied by a picture that matches the contents of the word b if the meaning is stronger, for example below

🌳🌳How to Write a Caption

1. Be descriptive. This first rule is the most important. Tell the reader exactly what is going on in the picture or figure. Why exactly are you including this image? The reader should be able to answer that after reading your caption.
  • For instance, if you’re including a picture of a field in a paper about biology, your caption should tell why the field is important to your discussion.

2. If you are describing a table or graph, talk about variables. What does each side of the bar graph represent? Your reader should have enough information from the caption, the key, and the graph to be able to make sense of it without reading your paper.

3. Save humor for elsewhere. Unless you are writing a humorous paper that includes humorous graphics, generally captions are better left serious due to the need for conciseness.

4. Keep it concise. That is, it should be no longer than a paragraph, but really, a sentence should be sufficient, at most. In fact, captions don’t even need to be complete sentences. For a photograph, it’s okay to make it shorter than a sentence, such as “Kayley on the Ferris wheel.”

5. Remove anything that isn’t strictly necessary. For instance, the above caption could have said “Kayley waves her hand on the giant green Ferris wheel,” but the extra information that provides isn’t necessary for the reader to understand what’s going on in the picture.
